Most fast food joints are synonymous with overpriced, unhealthy foods. But Sweetgreen’s chain of restaurants seeks to break away from this pack and provide more people with better food without breaking the bank. For almost the price of a burger and fries, one can grab a healthy food salad in any of the Sweetgreen’s salad joints. The inexpensiveness of the foods presented here and their healthy benefits are some of the reasons the Nathan Ru and Associates idea has expanded considerably fast and managing to open up in 40 locations across the United States.
What informed the Sweetgreens idea?
Sweetgreens was co-founded in 2007 by Nathaniel Ru, Jonathan Neman, and Nicolas Jammet that also form the company’s co-CEO. The three are graduates of Georgetown University who shared Entrepreneurship classes. Upon graduation, they noticed that Georgetown area didn’t have healthy eateries and, therefore, themselves to establishing one in the city immediately after graduation in August 2007.
The nobility of the idea and its articulated execution has in the course of time attracted notable investors like Danny Meyer and Steve Case. The fact these restaurants only serve fresh, organic, and healthy local recipes makes them resonate with most American’s that are continuously lining up for a bite of the tasty and affordable lunch salads. The restaurant’s unique designs, inviting customer service, and integration of technology in the form of online bookings through the restaurant website and the app makes it even more appealing to most millennial. In effect, the company reports indicate that company closed more than 30% of their sales through the online platforms.
Far from the restaurant salads, there is still a lot that budding entrepreneurs can learn from the trio. They are not just co-founders and co-CEO, but they are also introducing a new decentralized form of management by operating free of a central headquarter. The trio also believes in staying in touch with their customers whereby they close their corporate offices and take up active roles in restaurant operations.
